Basically the way it works is, there are dog tags, known as brag badges, that you try to collect by doing things throughout the summer. Some things are easy like read a new book, make a paper airplane or have a barbeque, but others are harder like go and hike Kannarraville Falls (5mile hike) or go 3 full days without any TV, computer, phones or electronics. (The harder ones are worth more points) and each month you can register your points to be entered into a drawing for CASH! Well we forgot about it the first month and knew we didn't want to turn in our points the last month when everyone else was doing it so we entered almost all our points in July and guess what?? WE WON!! They picked Seth's name out, but the kids had an agreement that if either one of them won (the $100) they would split it since we were all doing everything together, thus giving them a little bit higher chance of winning SOME money. We worked hard and it was SO fun to see them win! (I believe only 4 kids in all of Iron county won every month, so our odds were stacked...but we did turn in a TON of points).
So this post will be lengthy with pictures because I documented a lot of what we did in order to get our brag badges. But I just love that we got out and did all of this! BY FAR THE BUSIEST AND MOST FUN SUMMER OF OUR LIVES.
That's a ton of brag badges....and a pretty $100 dollar bill!
Hiking around the ski lifts of Brianhead
Climbing and learning about Brian Head Peak
Ducks Pond in Cedar Breaks National Park
Disecting Owl food at Cedar Breaks Visitor Center (I guess they swallow their prey whole). The idea was to put together the bones of what they ate so you had a full skeleton of the mouse or some sort of vermin??? It was disgusting but apparently totally sanitary. :/
Visiting the Veterans Memorial Park in Cedar and trying to explain WWI/II, Viatnam, Korean wars to my kids....:)
Jogging one of the 5 trails in Cedar City
Kanaraville Falls hike. With our friendly cousin visitor Anthea, and my brother Neal as a Cordelle proxy aka Collin's ride.
Collin did great, and despite it being right during his nap time he was a tropper and SO happy!
Its been before Seth was born since I did this hike but my kids did great, and I remembered just how beautiful it is....and wet. Haha!
Kept him out of the water the whole time, but right a the end, we just couldn't resist and he LOVED it!
Even got a turn with Uncle Brett
Attending the Shakespearean Festival's Greenshow
Seeing the Petroglyphs at the Parowan Gap
And one day we went on SUU's campus to go to their natural history museum so I let the kids take their scooters and just ride all over campus. It was a blast, I think I wanna go back and do that with cordelle for a date night.
Visited Iron Mission State Park
Saw the old cabins
and school house.
Kids enjoyed the outhouse!
The big Iron mill and learning to rope some cattle.
Lived here 11 years and had never been here! Great place to take people visiting Iron County.
Historical landmarks of ENOCH
This was a really fun find for me! This is a totally deserted park. Ok its a public park on the Indian Reservation but there is never anyone there! And it is a great park! It has this whole track along the outside so I totally can just let the kids play and i can run around the track and be able to see them the WHOLE time! Anyways great brag badge find!
